Description
Cloves take their name from the French ‘Clou’ which means ‘nail’ which they closely resemble. They have always been highly valued as a commodity, so much so that in the 18th Century they were worth more than gold! They are extremely aromatic and are used in both sweet and savoury dishes. As these cloves are ground, they are very strong and therefore you tend to use quite a small amount at a time.
